“Who knew that Keller Williams Metro Atlanta could pack this much kindness and generosity into one day?” |

You’d most certainly be forgiven if, on the morning of May 9th, you mistook the army of red shirts descending upon Legacy Park as some sort of invasion. In a way it actually was, albeit one with benevolent intent.
Every second Thursday in May, the agents, leaders, and associates of Keller Williams Metro Atlanta step away from their daily business duties to venture out into the community and spend the day — what they call their “Red Day” — giving back. Their plan of attack, ambitious. Their contributions, incalculable. Painting, upgrading facilities, general maintenance. Building new picnic tables. Mulching trees and removing invasives. The list goes on. It’s become a hallmark of the Keller Williams office and each year a new beneficiary is chosen, which makes us particularly fortunate because their efforts have centered on Legacy Park now two years running.
“Who knew,” muses Legacy Decatur executive director Madeleine Henner, “that they could pack this much kindness and generosity into one day?” |

Volunteering is among the two most impactful ways (the other being donations) that friends of Legacy Park can help ensure its future. Not just in the maintenance of its present condition but through the ongoing incremental improvements envisioned in our master plan.
"This day was transformational for Legacy Park,” stresses Dymond Generette, Legacy Decatur’s programs manager, “and we couldn't have done it without the amazing support from the Keller Williams team. We've received so many compliments on the Cochran building's painting job and storage space, the ease of use to get into the PX storage space with all the shelves gone, the beautiful flooring and renovated Moore Chapel venue, and the overall beautification of the park.”
Indeed, Legacy’s century-old Moore Chapel presents a fairly dramatic example of just how much is possible when the community brings their talents and enthusiasm to the table. “I worked with KW on the Moore Chapel project,” continues Generette, “which included carpet and pew removal. Those pews are now in storage and reserved for United Methodists Children’s Home alumni and their families. And the back pew was left in place as a lingering reminder of the chapel’s history.” “In removing the pews and carpets and refinishing the floors, we’ve brightened the space and made it more versatile — perfect for all kinds of events beyond just our wedding program.”
"We're so excited to host a few upcoming events introducing this new and unique rental option to the community. And you can always book the space yourself as well for any event or wedding.”

Time and time again, the fortunes of Legacy Park rise on the enthusiasms of our community. Whether it's the many volunteers who’ve joined Trees Atlanta each month in restoring the Legacy forest, or the organizations who made this year’s Legacy Community Day so successful, or the crews setting up and tearing down the park's Truckin’ Tuesday events every May and September.
This property has a unique ability to attract special people.
“Our office is different than the typical real estate office in many ways,” says Keller Williams’ Jeff Raw. “We take a work hard/play hard attitude and our annual Red Day project is a perfect example of the way we love to collaborate with each other. We are not afraid to get dirty, mix it up, and tackle big projects.” It’s not just the park that wins. Those on the giving end also reap the many personal rewards inherent in selfless acts.
“We've really enjoyed working with the team at Legacy Park and seeing the difference we can make in the community,” says Raw. “Whether it’s hosting an event at the gorgeous chapel, donating blood in the Cochran building, or just enjoying the great food and entertainment on Truckin' Tuesdays, Legacy Park is an amazing amenity in the City of Decatur and we are proud to be involved there.” |
